Do Good Resources

Giving back is always important, but it’s especially important during times like these. We’ve found a range of ways (both physically and virtually) for you to do some good and help those in need.

SUPPORT YOUR #PDIFAMILY

  • Rave a Co-Worker: Have a coworker you really appreciate? Make their day by recognizing them for all their hard work (or for just being plain awesome) on rave!
  • Thank the Field: Please take a moment to help thank our PDI field team members by posting on social media and tagging @PowerDesignInc so we can share!
  • Gather and Donate Supplies: If you have extra cleaning supplies for our field team, please drop supplies off at the GRID, in the CORE lobby. Please use your p-Card if purchasing cleaning supplies, or reach out to the SOURCE for reimbursement.
    • Disinfectant wipes
    • Hand sanitizers (minimum 60% alcohol)
    • Disinfecting spray (such as Lysol bottles)
    • Disposable gloves
    • Disinfectant hand soap
    • No-touch thermometers
    • Paper towels

DONATE BLOOD

  • Continue Giving Blood: Blood supply is critically low right now, and OneBlood needs donors to maintain a sufficient blood supply for weeks to come. Find a location.

SUPPORT HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

Donations to these organizations helps tackle the medical supplies shortage we are facing as they provide masks and medical protective gear to frontline workers globally.

Here are some other creative ways to support our health care professionals:

  • Give them a social media shout out – download your photo badge here and share it on social media
  • Call local nursing schools or healthcare facilities to see how you can pay for their parking
  • Call a local unit manager at a healthcare facility to see if you can arrange a food delivery for their team
  • Consider offering to ease the burden of childcare or eldercare for nurse’s families, even if it’s something as simple as dropping off groceries, hygiene essentials, and other supplies

SUPPORT COVID-19 RELIEF FUNDS

Many organizations are working to help fight COVID-19 and provide relief to those negatively impacted by the virus. To support these different relief funds, you can donate directly at the links below.

GIVE BACK WITH FOOD

  • Donate Food: Many food banks are rapidly running out of food to feed the hungry. To donate food, distribute food, or help build food boxes, look up food banks near you using one of these resources:
  • Volunteer for Meals on Wheels: Delivering meals is a simple and rewarding way to help seniors and people with disabilities in need, and you can do it over your lunch hour! Type your zip code in the “FIND MEALS” box to locate a program near you.
  • Give SURGE Meals to Friends and Family: Treat friends and family to some SURGE grub and deliver it to their home (safely of course!). Orders can be placed in the @GRID app.

GIVE BACK TO YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

Here are some creative ways to give back to your local community:

  • Purchase the music and merch of local musicians or stream their music on services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube
  • Buy artwork online from local artists
  • Shop local businesses online (home decoration, thrift, craft shops, etc.)
  • Get delivery (or takeout!) from your favorite local restaurant
  • Buy gift cards for local services (e.g. beauty salons) – you can keep it for yourself or give it as a gift to someone at a future date!
  • Support your local fitness teachers by watching livestreams of their classes
  • Post on Your Local Nextdoor App: Neighborhood social networking app Nextdoor has introduced a new feature called Help Maps to give people a way to better support their neighbors during these times.

SUPPORT LOCAL ANIMALS

  • Adopt or Foster an Animal from ASPCA: See how you can adopt or foster a furry friend in need by checking out ASPCA’s site to find an animal shelter or rescue near you.
  • Greyhounds Need Fosters: Racing tracks were closed early due to COVID-19, and about 1,500 greyhounds are now looking for homes. To make it easy, they’re providing foster volunteers with everything they need!

FOR THE KIDS

  • Friendly “Bear Hunts”: People across the globe are placing teddy bears in the windows of their homes to create a scavenger hunt activity for kids who are stuck at home. Join the fun!
  • Sidewalk Chalk Message: Spread some positivity by reaching for the chalk and writing a special message on the sidewalk with your kids!
  • Send a Message of Hope: Have your kiddos help you write, record, or photograph a message of hope for kids who are waiting for their wishes to be granted and post it on social media tagging @MakeAWISH (@MakeAWishAmerica on Instagram) with the hashtag #WishesAreWaiting
  • No Kids Hungry: This organization helps feed children who have lost their school meals due to school closures.
  • UNICEF: Committed to saving and protecting the world’s most vulnerable children, this charity helps provide the nutrition, water, medical, and hygiene supplies they desperately need.
  • First Book: With schools, libraries, and programs remaining closed, this charity sends millions of books to kids who lack internet access for at home learning.

VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, has curated a robust resource list of virtual volunteer opportunities. Here are some example opportunities from the list:

  • Career Village: Provide career advice and guidance to underserved youth.
  • Be My Eyes: Make the world more accessible to people who are blind or have a low level of vision.
  • UPchieve: Provide live academic support to low-income youth.
